New Jenolan Caves Fire station accepts donation of Boscotek workbench and Boscotek workplace storage unit
The Black Summer bushfires in 2019 and 2020 devastated more than 1.5 million hectares of land in New South Wales and Victoria. The blaze claimed a number of homes in the Jenolan area including the town’s fire station.
“When we first lost the shed I was devastated,” reflects Barry Richard, Group Captain of the NSW Rural Fire Service, who has been in the fire brigade since the mid 1960s. “A lot of the history that goes back many years was destroyed in the fire unfortunately.”
Amid the heartache and loss was a silver lining as the NSW Rural Fire Service worked with the Jenolan community to build a brand new fire station.
“Our new fire station is state of the art,” says Captain Charles Degotardi. “It’s all fully insulated, it has fireproof gyprock, a lot more technology has gone into it and it’s a lot bigger.”
Wilson & Gilkes had the opportunity to support the Jenolan Caves Fire Station by donating Boscotek workbench and storage products.
“The Boscotek desk supplied by Wilson & Gilkes is going to play a great role in the maintenance and upkeep of our fire station,” says Charles. “We use the bench for timber work, sharpening axes, chainsaws, it has a number of uses.”
“We try and source Australian made products wherever we can. The Boscotek product is second to none. The quality is solid, it doesn’t move, it’s built to last forever.”
For Barry, seeing the state of the art fire station rise from the ashes of the Black Summer fires is deeply rewarding. “This station is absolutely wonderful. It’s something we’ve been looking forward to for years. The facilities are next to none.”
