Buying Workshop Storage? What Made in Western Sydney Gives Your Project

When a fit-out runs late, it's rarely the bench that's the problem. It's the supply chain behind it.

What a buyer gets from one site

Boscotek storage is designed, laser cut, folded, welded, powder coated and assembled at one site in Western Sydney (OPIE Manufacturing Group, 109 Russell Street, Emu Heights), under one BSI-certified ISO 9001 quality system. For a buyer, that means one accountable supplier, additions that match later, local spares and a 5-year manufacturer's warranty.

Below: how it's made, step by step (Design, Manufacture, Quality, Install), and the documents you can ask us for.

Step 1: Design

It starts with engineering. Boscotek's range is designed as a modular system: drawers, cabinets, benches and mobile units share common dimensions so they work together. For standard products, the design rules sit inside our configurator, which also provides the BIM file. For custom projects, our engineers model the layout and the parts in CAD, applying design-for-manufacture principles so each part is easy to make accurately.

Step 2: Laser cutting

Flat steel sheet is cut on TRUMPF fibre lasers. Nesting software arranges parts on each sheet to minimise offcut, and the offcuts that remain are recycled through the OPIE Green Loop. Laser cutting gives clean, accurate edges and holes, which matters when hundreds of drawer runners and fixings have to line up.

Step 3: Folding and panel bending

Cut blanks are formed into cabinet sides, doors, drawer bodies and bench components. OPIE's Salvagnini panel bender automates the folding of panels, producing the same bend angles and dimensions part after part. TRUMPF press brakes handle other components. Consistent folding is the reason Boscotek drawers glide and doors close square.

Step 4: Welding

Where strength demands it, parts are welded. Industrial cupboards are fully welded, and heavy duty linefeed trolleys use 3mm welded construction. OPIE runs conventional welding alongside a TRUMPF TruLaser Weld 5000 robotic laser welding cell for precise, low-distortion welds on suitable assemblies.

Step 5: Powder coating

Parts are powder coated on OPIE's in-house Euroimpianti line. Each part goes through a six-stage chromate-free pre-treatment before coating, which helps the finish adhere and resist corrosion. The line uses a closed-loop water system with zero wastewater, and the powders are RoHS compliant. Boscotek's signature finishes are light grey cabinets with blue labels, and royal blue bench frames with black drawers. Other colours are available.

Step 6: Assembly and quality checks

Components come together in assembly: drawer runners fitted, drawers installed, locks and anti-tilt mechanisms set, tops mounted. Quality checks happen throughout under OPIE's BSI-certified ISO 9001 quality management system, not just at the end. The CSIRO National Soil Archive project used Boscotek drawers cycle-tested past 150,000 operations. That project was manufactured under Wilson & Gilkes, before Boscotek joined OPIE Manufacturing Group.

Step 7: Delivery and installation

Finished products are packed and delivered nationwide. Boscotek's installation teams position, level and commission the system on site, so it's ready to load and use.

Why it matters

Making everything under one roof brings practical benefits:

  • Consistency: the same machines, people and processes, order after order

  • Accountability: one quality system covering every step

  • Speed: no waiting on outside coaters or fabricators

  • Support: spare parts, additions and modifications come from the same factory

  • Confidence: a 5-year manufacturer's warranty

Boscotek has more than 30 years in the industry. Since joining OPIE Manufacturing Group, it's been manufactured alongside the group's other brands in Western Sydney, benefiting from the group's investment in automation and its more than 60 years of manufacturing experience.

Frequently asked questions

Is every Boscotek product made in Australia? Boscotek products are designed and manufactured at OPIE Manufacturing Group's Emu Heights facility in Western Sydney. Bought-in components such as castors or locks can come from other suppliers, so ask for a country-of-origin statement for your order.

Can I get a custom colour? Because powder coating is done in-house, colours other than our standard finishes can usually be accommodated. Ask when you quote.

Can I add to an older Boscotek system? In most cases, yes. The range is modular and designed so additions match. Send us photos and dimensions of what you have.

How do I know it's been checked? Every product is made under a BSI-certified ISO 9001 quality management system, with checks at each stage and a 5-year manufacturer's warranty behind it.
